History of The Alora Mae

The Alora Mae, a charming community in Fredericksburg, holds a special significance that goes beyond its luxurious residences and captivating surroundings. Named after the developer's beloved grandmother, who had deep roots in the Fredericksburg and Doss communities, The Alora Mae is a testament to the rich heritage and cherished memories of generations past.

It is in her honor that this remarkable condo community was created, with the intention of capturing the essence of Fredericksburg's timeless charm and warm sense of community. The development embraces the values of family, heritage, and togetherness, striving to provide a place where residents can forge their own cherished memories and form lasting bonds with neighbors.

Alora (Mae) Durden-Nelson, a retired elementary children's librarian from the Comfort School District, dedicated 27 years to her role, and initiated the Elementary Library Children's Theater project. She contributed to various community boards, including the Comfort Chamber of Commerce and Comfort Public Education Foundation. Alora Mae also played a significant role in the Comfort Public Library and the Comfort Area Youth Commission. She earned notable achievements such as the publication of "The Case of the Easter Villains" in Plays Inc. magazine and received a Community Builder Award.

With a rich writing history, she was a reporter for the Kerrville Daily Times, authored historical works, and contributed to the Southwest Chapter of Book Writers and Illustrators since 1986. Her retirement ventures involved researching the history of Robert's Ranch and writing a series of books, including "I Just Called Her Momma" and "The Little House with a Big Story," all published by Eakin Press." Her latest book is "At Home at the Range." Click the link below to view Alora Mae's publications!
