
The Name Behind the Community
Alora (Mae) Durden-Nelson, a retired elementary children's librarian from the Comfort School District, dedicated 27 years to her role, and initiated the Elementary Library Children's Theater project. She contributed to various community boards, including the Comfort Chamber of Commerce and Comfort Public Education Foundation. Alora Mae also played a significant role in the Comfort Public Library and the Comfort Area Youth Commission. She earned notable achievments such as the publication of "The Case of the Easter Villains" in the Plays Inc. magazine and received a Community Builder Award.
With a rich writing history she was a reporter for the Kerrville Daily times, authored historical works, and contributed to the Southwest Chapter of Book Writers and Illustrators since 1986. Her retirement ventures involved researching the history of Robert's Ranch and writing a series of books, including "I just Called her Momma" and "Little House with a Big Story" all published by Eakin Press.
